Where'd You Get Those?

"As the only accredited university-level sneaker class out there, Sneakerology 101 and Carnegie Mellon University present one of the culture’s living legends in Bobbito Garcia to speak on April 6th, 2009. The lecture looks to speak about the undeniable impact sneakers have had in the cultural landscape emanating from Hip-Hop and sports as it eventually became the pop icon it is now. Bobbito Garcia’s "Where'd You Get Those?" serves as Sneakerology 101’s official textbook. The hour long lecture is open to the public and starts at 4:00 pm, April 6th at the McConomy Auditorium."

I do not care for fresh kicks on my person ('cept Lavers, obvs, and I am still swooning over those Joy Division New Balances!) since heels look so much better on my skinny legs. However, I do enjoy things such as love and appreciation for rare items, dedication, and nerdiness--qualities that all the sneaker-obsessed hypebeast boys that I have encountered possess. One could liken this obsession to, say, a certain bikini-clad blogger's enthusiasm for and preoccupation with round black pieces of vinyl. Next time I see you waiting outside Supreme at midnight for the latest drop, maybe I'll bring you some cupcakes. We gotta support each other in this game! Nerd recognize nerd.

Also, anything Bob lends his name & likeness to is pretty fresh. I walked by him at the first Wonderfull party in '05 and grabbed his forearm and said, "Thank you! THANK you!" and he just laughed and was very nice and gracious about my nerding out. Oh DJ Cucumber Slice! I miss Fondle 'Em!

I have precisely one set of rare sneakers - a pair of chocolate brown, limited edition Chuck Taylor/Gibson Guitar leather hi tops with the Gibson logo in place of the Chuck star. I've worn them twice. I feel compelled to get stuff like this out because anything that mitigates my otherwise extreme whiteness is a big deal to me.
