The Only Thing A Gambler Needs Is A Suitcase And A Trunk: Eric Burdon, Call Me

from NME.com:

The line "I am the eggman" in The Beatles' 'I Am The Walrus' refers to The Animals' Eric Burdon, who had a habit of breaking eggs over the breasts of groupies.

I'm not gonna lie; I woulda let him. Don't act like you haven't heard about my penchant for shaggy British white boys who were supposed to work in factories like their dads the rest of their lives, but then they co-opt and sing the hell outta an old blues song like they're all tortured and whatnot. Swelteringly hot. Mark Ronson has attempted to swagger-jack the look for days but just can't get everything lined up properly, and therefore I cannot allow him to see me naked...or break eggs over my breasts.

AFFIRMATIVE. Once again, original trumps derivative:

NEGATIVE. Thanks for playing.

Hating With Flair And Enthusiasm

"J.Period emancipates another track off his A Tribe Called Quest tribute project The [Abstract] Best, which will drop in full on February 10th." - Link

I guess we all need paychecks.

How this is considered a track of J.Period's is beyond my scope of understanding. Usually "his" is a possessive, indicating something belonging to, owned/dominated/occupied by.

I have the Liquid Swords instrumentals, so watch for my tribute project of my neighbor coming over and kicking freestyles over it in my living room. Heads are not, in fact, ready.

OMG Acey

I love you.

"To turn to each other and not on each other."

Transcript of Rev. Lowery's Inaugural Benediction

Rev. Joseph Lowery, who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King Jr., delivered the benediction at the inaugural ceremony. Below is a transcription of his address, provided by CQ Transcriptwire:

[*] LOWERY: God of our weary years, god of our silent tears, thou, who has brought us thus far along the way, thou, who has by thy might led us into the light, keep us forever in the path we pray, lest our feet stray from the places, our god, where we met thee, lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee.

Shadowed beneath thy hand, may we forever stand true to thee, oh God, and true to our native land.

We truly give thanks for the glorious experience we've shared this day.

We pay now, oh Lord, for your blessing upon thy servant Barack Obama, the 44th president of these United States, his family and his administration.

He has come to this high office at a low moment in the national, and indeed the global, fiscal climate. But because we know you got the whole world in your hands, we pray for not only our nation, but for the community of nations.

Our faith does not shrink though pressed by the flood of mortal ills.

For we know that, Lord, you are able and you're willing to work through faithful leadership to restore stability, mend our brokenness, heal our wounds, and deliver us from the exploitation of the poor, of the least of these, and from favoritism toward the rich, the elite of these.

We thank you for the empowering of thy servant, our 44th president, to inspire our nation to believe that yes we can work together to achieve a more perfect union.

And while we have sown the seeds of greed -- the wind of greed and corruption, and even as we reap the whirlwind of social and economic disruption, we seek forgiveness and we come in a spirit of unity and solidarity to commit our support to our president by our willingness to make sacrifices, to respect your creation, to turn to each other and not on each other.

And now, Lord, in the complex arena of human relations, help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate; on the side of inclusion, not exclusion; tolerance, not intolerance.

And as we leave this mountain top, help us to hold on to the spirit of fellowship and the oneness of our family. Let us take that power back to our homes, our workplaces, our churches, our temples, our mosques, or wherever we seek your will.

Bless President Barack, First Lady Michelle. Look over our little angelic Sasha and Malia.

We go now to walk together as children, pledging that we won't get weary in the difficult days ahead. We know you will not leave us alone.

With your hands of power and your heart of love, help us then, now, Lord, to work for that day when nations shall not lift up sword against nation, when tanks will be beaten into tractors, when every man and every woman shall sit under his or her own vine and fig tree and none shall be afraid, when justice will roll down like waters and righteousness as a mighty stream.

Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around...

(LAUGHTER)

... when yellow will be mellow...

(LAUGHTER)

... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen.

AUDIENCE: Amen.

LOWERY: Say Amen.

AUDIENCE: Amen.

LOWERY: And Amen.

AUDIENCE: Amen.

(APPLAUSE)

Swagger Jack! Code Red!!

ASHER ROTH IS A PROBLEM FOR ME.

Ash, I liked you the first time I heard your suburban steez, when you were on my television and your name was John Brown. One of you in the universe is plenty so umm, please see yourself out. It's not fresh and/or irreverent cuz you know I seen a hundred you's at the Short Stop. You are an archetype within every major metropolitan area, including this one. There's
2 or 3 of you whenever I walk down Fairfax, and at least 6 of you whenever I go out to an establishment where alcoholic beverages are served. You normally go out with your boys on Friday, but for some reason you're there on a Tuesday and you come up to me when I'm at the bar and look at my frame and I tell you I have a boyfriend even though I really do not just so you will please stop. (Oh, also, I don't have a cell phone. And ummm...I'm just visiting from out of town). You're so psyched on your pants & shoes & bachelor's degree & smirk. Good job buddy, you found Undefeated and you know all the words to "Tried By Twelve."

Fall back, Morrisville. You know what, I loved college too--mostly cuz you weren't there with me.

For some reason I find this human next-levels-of-next-level annoying, like he personally borrowed my Portishead at Roseland vinyl and never returned it.

And Steve Rifkind, you should be ashamed of yourself, sir.

Oh Word?

A lil etymology never hurt nobody. Today's word: PARIAH!

"In prehistorical times much of southern India was occupied, apparently, by a black-skinned race of primitive people (sorry--the book is from 1950). Some time after the Aryan invasion, which may have been as early as 2000 B.C., these people were subjugated and forced into menial positions. Gradually, after the caste system was introduced, they became separated into different lowly classes. Among these people was one class known as Pariah, which, from the name, indicates that at one time they were the hereditary beaters of the drum (parai) at various festivals. Eventually they became agricultural laborers and, among the British, household servants. They are not the lowest caste, but are regarded by the Brahmans as "untouchable." Among the British, therefore, pariah became a general term for anyone of low caste, but especially for the lowest of the low, or for those of no caste at all. Hence, although the application is not strictly correct, any person (or animal) who is an outcast among his kind has become known as a pariah."

Oh Word?

A lil etymology never hurt nobody. Today's word: DEBAUCHERY!

"In the Middle Ages it was no more difficult to persuade a man to leave his work, perhaps for conversation or a convivial drink, than it is today. The French of that period had a word for that. It was desbaucher, literally, to lure from one's place of work or from one's duty to a master."
